Dog or ‘highly evolved Muppet?’ The internet is torn over Kansas shelter pup
A dog in Kansas is so cute, people are wondering if she’s even an actual pup — or a real life Jim Henson character come to life.
Her looks make a strong case for the latter.
Meet Poppy, a 3-year-old pup at the Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka who’s here to amaze and wow people with her gentle cartoon looks and piercing multicolor gaze. And she’s ready and willing to make someone’s home much warmer with her presence.
“The internet is currently debating whether she is a dog or a highly evolved Muppet,” the shelter said in an Oct. 15 Facebook post.
“We’re here to confuse you further. Meet Poppy. She’s 3 years old, 47.2 pounds, and a mystery box of genetic splendor. The community brainstorm on her ancestry wielded: a Labradoodle, an Aussie Poodle mix, a Wheaton Terrier, and an unconfirmed but highly compelling theory that she is the rightful heir to the throne of Sprocket from Fraggle Rock.”
Sure, that’s a lot to take in, but trust the process: Poppy is worth it.
“She carries all this mystique with unparalleled style, including her multicolored eyes—proof that she sees the world in complex, beautiful, and slightly chaotic dimensions,” the shelter said.
While she may look like the perfect canine specimen, she has her complaints.
Like … children.
“Now, let’s talk about her feelings on what she calls the half-risen humanoid dough (kids under 10 or so)” the shelter says.
“Poppy operates on a delicate sensory balance. She gets overstimulated faster than a TikTok trend, and when that happens, her mouth likes to join the conversation. Think of it as her trying to gently explain her feelings, but with her teeth.”
Got it? Kids equal nips. So it’s best if she goes to a house with adults or little people over the age of 10.
“But don’t mistake her for a high-maintenance drama queen! Poppy is a certified genius in the making. She’s been crushing her training classes and we think she’d thrive with consistent study sessions,” the shelter said.
“She’s looking for her academic partner, her study buddy, the human who’s ready to unlock her full potential.”
