A Hutchinson teen was killed in a crash Friday on I-135 in McPherson County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Joel R. Guffey died at the scene. The 19-year-old was a passenger in a 2003 Ford Ranger.

The driver, a 20-year-old Hutchinson man, had minor injuries, a trooper wrote in a crash report.

The wreck happened about 5:40 a.m. on I-135 south near Quivira Road.

The truck went off the road to the left, before the “driver overcorrected back onto the roadway,” a trooper wrote. The truck “rolled multiple times coming to rest in the southbound lanes facing southwest.”

Family said on social media that Guffey was coming back to town with a friend and then on to work.

“Joel believed in Jesus, was so much fun and kept our family laughing with his quick wit, was a hard worker, loved riding horses and fishing, was a good son, brother, and friend and loved getting to be an uncle,” a family member wrote on social media.
