A 76-year-old Cloud County man died Sunday after the plane he was piloting crashed after takeoff.

David A. Kadel of Concordia was flying his Rans S-21 Airaile fixed wing single-engine ultra light airplane when the aircraft “lost altitude and nose dived into the ground,” the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. at 1674 N. 150th Road in Concordia, near the Blosser Municipal Airport.

The KHP says a possible mechanical issue with the plane likely caused the crash.

Concordia is about a two-hour drive north of Wichita.
