A 35-year-old Kansas man died in a rollover crash Saturday in central Kansas.

Blake Peters of Ellinwood died at the scene of the crash, Barton County sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

Deputies were called to a vehicle crash at 4:45 p.m. south of Ellinwood on SE 105 Avenue near near SE 20 Road.

They learned that Peters was seen leaving Ellinwood n a 2007 GMC Yukon SUV at a high rate of speed, according to Bellendir.

The Yukon was heading south on SE 105 Avenue when it failed to negotiate a curve onto SE 20 Road. The SUV left the road, went into an open field and rolled multiple times. Peters was thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene, Bellendir added.

Investigators say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The intersection where it happened was closed off.

Ellinwood is a city of roughly 1,960 and is 97 miles northwest of Wichita.
