Mama cat who lost a toe is done raising kittens. Now she needs a home of her own
A Kansas cat who has been through the wringer — and managed to come out healthy — is ready to start a new chapter in her life.
Hashbrown, a mama cat, was plagued with health issues in the past. But that didn’t stop her from being the best mother she could be, the Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka said.
“I’ve lost a toe, raised (kittens,) and made it through an upper respiratory infection…I’m in my strong, healthy era and ready to be adopted!” the shelter said while channeling its inner feline in a July 9 post.
“The name is Hashbrown, and yes, I’m part of the 20% of ginger cats who are woman (hear us roar)! I came to the shelter with kittens, and I like to brag that my behavior notes said what a good mom I was from day 1.”
While she’s thriving now, the shelter isn’t sure what she went through before, and how she injured one of her digits on the outside.
“We’re not quite sure what happened to my toe (a momma bear does what she’s gotta do!), but it was injured badly enough it needed to be amputated,” the shelter noted.
“Thank you to the shelter medical team for taking good care of me! Now I can make up some awesome sounding story about how I saved my babies from a pack of hungry snapping turtles.”
Hashbrown didn’t have to raise her little squad in a chaotic kennel environment, either.
“Luckily a foster helped a sister out by taking me home so I could raise the babies in a comfy house instead of a shelter kennel,” the shelter added. “The kids are grown enough to be in homes of their own (almost all have been adopted and the last little is in the adoption process!)”
