Authorities are asking the public for help in identifying a woman whose remains were found early this year in Hutchinson.

Officers responding to a Jan. 2, 2025, call regarding a deceased person in the 1600 block of East 1st Avenue found her remains, the Hutchinson Police Department said Thursday afternoon.

“Based on forensic analysis, the deceased — referred to as Jane Doe — is believed to be a Caucasian female, likely over 50 years of age, with wavy or slightly curly brown hair featuring gray streaks,” an HPD news release said. “The condition of her remains suggests she had been deceased for approximately six months to a year prior to discovery.”

The cause of death remains undetermined, and there is no evidence of trauma prior to death. The remains were sent to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office to be examined.

“A dental examination revealed significant dental issues, including severely worn, fractured, and decayed teeth — details that may be helpful in identifying her,” police said.

Anyone who may have information about the woman’s identity is encouraged to call 620-694-2822 or Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 800-222-TIPS.
