A 17-year-old girl died Tuesday in a house fire in central Kansas, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said.

She was identified as Elizabeth Lillian Ohl.

Authorities were called at 4:44 a.m. to a report of a structure fire in the 200 block of West 6th Street in Solomon. First responders found the house engulfed in flames.

Deputies and firefighters were able to help a man escape through a window, and two other adults and a child were able to exit the home.

Ohl was still trapped in the building. Deputies attempted to enter the home through a doorway and window, but were stopped by intense heat and smoke. The fire was eventually put out and Ohl was found inside the home, the sheriff’s office said.

The Office of the Kansas State Fire Marshal and the sheriff’s office are conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.

Solomon is a town of roughly 1,000 people just over 100 miles north of Wichita.
