Kansas man dies after teen runs red light and strikes SUV, KHP says

A 21-year-old man died Monday morning after a pickup truck ran a red light and struck an SUV in southeast Kansas.

He was identified as Matthew Westhoff-Strode of Girard, a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log shows.

The crash was reported at 7 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 69 and U.S. 160 highways in Frontenac. A 16-year-old was heading south on U.S. 69 in a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. At the same time, Westhoff-Strode was eastbound on E. 590 Ave. in a 2022 Kia Soul, according to the crash report.

The Ram failed to stop for a stoplight and and struck the Kia, the KHP said. Westhoff-Strode died at the scene of the crash, and the 16-year-old Pittsburg teen was not injured.
