A body presumed to be that of a missing 81-year-old Overland Park woman was found Wednesday on private property in Cowley County, according to police.

Jerry McConnell was located approximately one mile from where her abandoned vehicle was found in late May, according to a statement from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office. Conditions indicate Jerry McConnell died not long after she abandoned her vehicle, according to a statement by her son Rick McConnell.

Jerry McConnell’s personal property was also found during the search, according to police.

In his statement, Rick McConnell expressed gratitude for the Cowley County Sheriff’s Department and the Overland Park Police Department.

“Unless you have personally experienced such an unfathomable situation, you cannot comprehend the enormous efforts such an operation entails,” the statement from McConnell read.

An autopsy is pending to confirm the identity of the remains, according to police.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who contributed time, resources, and support in the effort to locate Jerry over the past three weeks,” the police statement read.
