Four killed, four injured in Kansas head-on crash, Highway Patrol says

Four people were killed and four others were injured after a head-on crash Saturday afternoon in central Kansas.

The crash was reported at 2:55 p.m. along Kansas Highway 4 near Carlton in Dickinson County.

A 2013 Hyundai Elantra was eastbound on K-4. At the same time, a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse was heading west on K-4. For unknown reasons, the Elantra crossed the center line and struck the Traverse head-on, a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log shows.

The driver of the Elantra, 30-year-old Dawn Peel of Herington, died at the scene. Passengers 8-year-old Nathaniel Haney and 71-year-old Peggy Sutton, also died in the crash. Haney was from Herington and Sutton was from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A 6-year-old boy was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with minor injuries, a crash report said.

Inside the Traverse, 57-year-old Denise Henely of Herington, died at the scene of the crash. The driver and two other passengers, all male, were taken to hospitals with minor to serious injuries, the KHP said.

The driver of the Traverse is from Salina. Everyone else is from Herington.
