Kansas is one of 10 states affected by a recent Johnsonville sausage recall.

If you’ve recently purchased Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst, you should check your fridge as the food item may include hard plastic.

According to an April 7 release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 22,672 pounds of the brand’s cheddar bratwurst has been recalled after two consumers complained about hard plastic materials found in the sausages. The recalled item is a 19 oz package containing five pieces of the bratwurst with package code B9FOD. An easy indicator the package you have is included in the recall is the words “Est. 1647” on the label.

While the press release doesn’t say what specific grocery stores in Kansas may have sold the bratwurst, Johnsonville items can be found at popular grocery store chains in Kansas like Dillons, Walmart, Target and Sam’s Club.

The recalled item was produced Feb. 7, according to the press release.

If you do find the item in your freezer or fridge, you should either throw it out or return it to the place of purchase, the press release says.

While there have been no reports of health issues related to the Johnsonville bratwurst, you should still contact your medical provider if you think you are experiencing issues related to ingesting the product.

In addition to Kansas, the recall also applies to Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Johnsonville is a sausage company founded in 1945 in Sheboygen Falls, Wis.

Customers with recall-related questions are being directed to Johnsonville’s customer relations coordinator Amanda Fritsch by phone 888-556-2728 or email anachtweyfritsch@johnsonville.com.
