A 53-year-old Wichita man died Wednesday in a northwest Kansas accident after the oil derrick he had on the back of a “flatbed style truck-tractor” touched a live power line and he was ejected from the vehicle, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper said.

Shawn P. Kinder died at the scene. The accident happened around 3 p.m. along K-23 in Sheridan County after Kinder attempted to “make a right hand turn to enter ditch to obtain more clearance” and the “oil derrick came into contact with the live power lines.” Kinder was then ejected from the 1979 Kenworth, a KHP trooper wrote in the crash report.

A 48-year-old Natoma, Kansas, man then got into the vehicle and put on the parking brake.
