Kansas woman dies, two others seriously injured when pickup collides with SUV

A 61-year-old woman died Monday night in a two-vehicle collision in south-central Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the woman as Helen Blevins of Hutchinson.

The accident was reported at 9:28 p.m. at Airport Road and East 17th Avenue in Hutchinson. A 37-year-old Hutchinson man was westbound on 17th Avenue in a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck when the truck crossed the center line and collided with Blevins’ 2023 Buick SUV, which was heading east on 17th, a KHP crash log shows.

Blevins died at the scene of the crash. Her passenger, a 29-year-old Hutchinson woman, was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The man in the Dodge was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries, according to the KHP.

Hutchinson is a city of roughly 39,662 and is 49 miles northwest of Wichita.
