Kansas teen dies after car goes airborne, rolls several times, KHP says
A 16-year-old boy died after a rollover crash early Sunday morning in southwest Kansas.
The teen was identified as Augustus Riley of Liberal, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.
The crash was reported at 1:53 a.m. along a rural Seward County road, about three miles north of Liberal. Riley was eastbound on Seward County Road 9 in a 2009 Dodge Charger, when he drove through a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and county road 9.
The Charger went airborne and landed east of U.S. 83 on county road 9 and lost control. The vehicle skidded before going into a ditch, rolling several times and then struck a power pole, according to the KHP.
Riley died at the scene of the crash, the crash report said.
Liberal is a city of roughly 19,000 and is 212 miles southwest of Wichita.
