Adult, juvenile died after Kansas house fire; 2 others injured, officials say
One adult and and one juvenile died early Saturday morning after a house fire in Hutchinson, while another adult and juvenile survived.
The victims’ identities have not yet been released.
The Hutchinson Fire Department was sent at 3:22 a.m. to home in the 1000 block of East 3rd Avenue.
A neighbor told dispatchers that the house was on fire and there were people in the basement, according to joint news release from the Hutchinson police and fire departments.
Police arrived and found a juvenile standing in the front of the home. Fire crews entered the home, where they encountered heavy smoke and a hole on the first floor.
“They were able to navigate to the interior stairwell and made entry into the basement where they found 3 victims and the fire,” the release said. “Crews worked diligently to remove all 3 victims from the basement as the stairwell had been compromised due to fire.”
Of the three people inside the home, an adult and juvenile died. Another adult, along with the juvenile found outside, were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, officials said.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation as to what caused the fire.
