Kansas man, 51, dies after pickup strikes guardrail, culvert on dead-end road

A 51-year-old man died Monday after his pickup struck a guardrail and then a culvert on a dead-end road in McPherson County.

The man was identified as Sam Dial of Newton, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The accident was reported at 11:11 p.m. along 16th Avenue at U.S. Highway 81, roughly half a mile west of I-135 in McPherson County.

Dial was northbound on 16th Avenue in a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500. The street comes to a dead end at U.S. 81. Dial continued driving north until he struck the dead-end guardrail and a culvert before coming to a stop, the KHP said.

Dial died at the scene of the crash.
