One person was killed in a house fire that erupted Sunday in rural McPherson County.

At 6:04 p.m., McPherson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with other first responders, were sent to a residential fire in the 1000 block of 9th Avenue in rural McPherson County, a sheriff’s office social media post said.

First responders entered the home and began searching for a person who was reported to be inside, but had to retreat due to the fire’s intensity.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire and the homeowner was found deceased inside the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

The homeowner’s identity and age were not immediately released.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire, and preliminary results say it was accidental and caused by faulty electrical equipment.

Responding agencies included the Inman Fire Department, McPherson Fire Department and McPherson EMS.
