A 38-year-old man died Monday in a house fire in Pratt, but three others escaped.

Pratt police, fire and EMS were sent at 2:38 p.m. to a structure fire at a house in the 700 block of West Third Street.

Authorities learned that there were people trapped inside the home. Three occupants, a mother and two children, were able to escape the home with non-life-threatening injuries, Pratt police said in a Tuesday news release.

Firefighters were able to get the man out of the home, but he later died from his injuries, police said.

The man was identified as Matthew Wright, of Pratt. He was the father of the two children who escaped, Pratt police chief Nate Humble said in an email.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office helped investigate and determined it was an accidental electrical fire.

Pratt is a city of 6,546 and is 80 miles west of Wichita.
