‘Scared and injured’ puppy was found on guardrail of Kansas bridge. She needs help
A shelter in Kansas is working miracles after saving a puppy from a dire situation with the help of a community.
The Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka posted an urgent message on Facebook on Dec. 11 about a helpless puppy that found herself in a dangerous situation while injured. Dubbed Chicken Nugget, the 3-month-old Chihuahua mix, was found in one of the worst places possible before receiving aid.
“This tiny puppy was found on the guardrail of a bridge, scared and injured,” the shelter said. “She has a fractured bone in her leg near the knee, making it difficult and painful for her to move. Our veterinary team has determined she needs specialized orthopedic surgery to repair her injury and give her the chance to run, play, and live the full, happy life she deserves.”
Regardless of her pain, the shelter said that “Chicken Nugget has been melting hearts with her friendly, loving personality despite all she’s been through.”
The shelter provided an update, saying that they had received donations from the community and ended up surpassing their original goal for Nugget’s orthopedic surgery and recovery.
“Chicken Nugget won’t be available for adoption until after her surgery. We know there may be lots of interest in giving this sweet girl a home!” the shelter said.
