Kansas man dies after pickup truck leaves road, crashes into Ninnescah River

A 73-year-old Kansas man died Tuesday after his truck left the road and went into the Ninnescah River in Sumner County.

The victim was identified as Edward Fitzpatrick of Neosho Falls, a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report said.

The incident was reported at 2 p.m. along U.S. Highway 81. Fitzpatrick was heading north on the highway in a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup truck when for unknown reasons left the road.

The truck went into a ditch, struck a barrier and crashed into the Ninnescah River, where it came to rest on its roof, according to the KHP.

Fitzpatrick was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita where he died, the report said.
