‘Quirky’ cat in Kansas has an odd obsession and loves the dark. She needs a home
A cat has found a curiously cute way to get over her shyness, a Kansas shelter says.
Gaia, a 7-year-old beauty of a cat, is white with sporadic ebony blots on her fur that create an adorable pattern on her face and body. While she is lovely to look at, she — well — is pretty shy.
“Gaia is a very...quirky cat,” the Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka said in a Sept. 19 Facebook post.
“She is shy in the light but confident in the dark. After a few days of hiding in her blanket burritos and shoving herself in dark corners of our Adoption Manager’s office, she found a happy middle ground.”

“Twinkle lights,” the shelter said. “Gaia was obsessed the first time she saw them. She had to stare directly into them.. kinda weird but super adorable. She found a happy napping spot as close as she could get to them.”
While she still finds the most comfort in the dark, she can be lured with the lights, as it shows in the photos shared of her, gazing in awe at the brightness.
“She is skittish around loud noises and when strangers first show up. She’d adjust well in a home without small kids,” the shelter said.
“She probably wouldn’t do well in a childless home that likes to throw raves on the weekends either. She seems like the girl who’d love the family who enjoys sitting in the dark with twinkle lights on, reading a good book on a Saturday.”
