Person drowns after being underwater for more than 10 minutes at Kansas state park

One person drowned Saturday at the swimming beach of a northeast Kansas state park, authorities said.

A Geary County dispatcher on Sunday could not provide information about the person or what time the incident occurred. The Geary County Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident on Facebook shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Geary County deputies and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are investigating the drowning at Milford State Park, the sheriff’s office said.

Bystanders found the person and began performing CPR. The person was underwater for more than 10 minutes, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a social media post.

EMS arrived and pronounced the person dead. The victim’s identity was not released pending notification of family.

The 1,084-acre Milford State Park is northwest of Junction City, in Geary County.
