New millionaire? Powerball ticket bought in south central Kansas is good for $1 million
Someone who bought a Powerball Jackpot lottery ticket in south central Kansas came close to winning $850 million dollars on Wednesday but fell short one number. Still, that person will walk away with $1 million.
The drawing on Wednesday matched all five numbers of 1 - 7- 46 - 47- 63 with the exception of the Powerball winning number 7, a news release from the Kansas Lottery said.
The winning ticket was sold in one of these counties: Sedgwick Butler, Harvey, Reno, Barton, Rice, McPherson, Marion, Stafford, Pratt, Kingman, Harper, Barber, Sumner or Cowley.
The winner has a year from the date of the drawing to claim the prize. The next Powerball Jackpot drawing will be on Saturday for an estimated $925 million jackpot, the release said.
The biggest lottery payout in Kansas history was in March 2012 where a Franklin County resident won $218.6 million in the mega millions lottery, Kansas Lottery spokesperson Cory Thone told an Eagle reporter.
Other notable winnings include Powerball Jackpot winners Donald Damon of Great Bend who won $96.6 million in November 2009 and a Johnson County resident who won $92 million but chose a cash payout of $47 million, Thone said.
A $1 million mega millions lottery ticket was drawn on Jan. 10, 2023 in southeast Kansas, but the winner has not claimed the prize money, Thone said.
That person has until Jan. 10, 2024 to claim their prize money.
