Kansas has nearly 800 open state government jobs. Here are some that pay $70K or more
If you’re on the job hunt in Kansas, one of the 797 openings posted as of Friday on the state’s employment portal might be a good fit for you.
Of those, 27 positions are located in Sedgwick County. But if you’re OK venturing farther, Shawnee County has the most state job openings (270), followed by Pawnee (44), Miami (42) and Labette (38). Twenty-five jobs are labeled as “statewide.”
To navigate the state’s website, visit the portal at admin.ks.gov/offices/personnel-services/jobs and select which counties you’d like to view on the left of the screen. From there, you can click through and view each job’s description and qualifications. Most of the jobs have a salary listed, as well.
Here are four various statewide jobs with a starting salary of $70,000 or more. Salary could be dependent on education and experience, among other factors.
Field Survey Project Manager
Salary range: $76,960 to $91,332.80
Agency: Kansas Department of Transportation
Job description: This person will look over the preliminary survey activities for the Bureau of Right of Way, manage the internal resources and coordinate consultant surveys and resources used by the bureau, among other land-surveying responsibilities.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a land surveying license. The preferred candidate will have two years of supervisory experience and five years of highway route supervising experience.
Local Bridge Engineer
Salary range: $84,926 to $86,964.80
Agency: Kansas Department of Transportation
Job description: This position oversees coordination of bridge design and other federally funded projects. The engineer advises and mentors other team members on engineering issues and design, hydraulics, hydrology and all parts of bridge inspections.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited school and a Kansas-recognized professional engineers license.
PMO/Information Systems Manager
Salary: $75,150.40
Agency: Department of Children and Families
Job description: This person is responsible for managing resources and training for project managers and working with the portfolio manager to select projects. This person reports on various projects’ performance and keeps track of the progress and outcomes.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar field. They must also have five years of experience in information systems or seven years in information systems and analysis.
Director of Cybersecurity Cluster Development
Salary range: $70,000 to 80,000
Agency: Department of Commerce
Job description: This position works with other state agencies in developing a cybersecurity cluster in Kansas. Other responsibilities include managing workforce development initiatives revolving around the demand for more cybersecurity professionals, build relationships with private firms and more.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an associate’s degree or higher in computer science or a related field, as well as three years of work experience or five years experience in project management.
