Distributor issues recall of frozen fruit sold in Kansas. Check for these products

If you’ve purchased frozen fruit recently, you might want to check the bag to ensure it hasn’t been recalled.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a recall on certain Sunrise Growers Inc. frozen fruit products after they were found to possibly be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

“Consumers are urged to check their freezers for the recalled product, not to consume it and either discard the product or return it to the store for a full refund,” a June 21 release reads.

The FDA reports there have been no illnesses tied to the voluntary recall as of that date.

Listeria is known to cause fevers, headaches, abdominal pain, nausea and more. It mainly affects young children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems. Severe cases can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.

People with listeria usually report symptoms beginning one to four weeks after eating contaminated food. It is usually treated with antibiotics.

How to check your products and get a refund

If you’re not sure if your product is included in the recall, the FDA has an online list of all the recalled lot codes, which you can compare to your product’s bag. While all stores were instructed to remove the products from shelves, you should also double-check your products at purchase at these retailers.

If you have one of the recalled products in your freezer, you are advised to throw it away immediately or seek a refund from the grocery store where you purchased it.

If you have questions, you can email recall@sunrisegrowers.com or call 1-888-490-5591 between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
