A 7-year-old boy boy involved in an accident that killed his father last week died over the weekend at a hospital, said Lieutenant Candice Breshears of the Kansas Highway Patrol in an email.

Korbin Tinkel, 7, of Wamego, Kansas, died on Saturday. His father, 37-year-old Ryan Tinkel, was pronounced dead at the scene of a collision that involved three vehicles and a semi truck Wednesday night in Pottawatomie County, according to a KHP report.

KHP crash logs indicate he was taken to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri after the accident. His 2-year-old brother and mother, 36-year-old Jillian Tinkel, were taken to a hospital as well.

Breshears said in an email that Jillian Tinkel and the 2-year-old boy remain hospitalized and “no other information about their condition is available.”

The accident was reported around 5:33 p.m. Saturday when a 34-year-old St. Mary’s woman, driving an SUV, was stopped and waiting to make a turn, the KHP reported.

Randy Tinkel was coming to a stop behind the woman when both vehicles were rear-ended by a semi-truck driven by a 44-year-old Lecompton man. He wasn’t injured. Another vehicle was hit by debris from the accidents; no one in that vehicle was injured, the report said.

The St. Mary’s woman who was rear-ended by the semi was also taken to a hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The KHP crash log did not say why the driver of the semi-truck didn’t stop, and the original report said three vehicles had been involved in the accident.

The SUV driven by the woman came to rest on one side of the road and the truck driven by Tinkel ended up on its roof on the other side, the KHP crash log said.

A GoFundMe for the family has raised over $40,000 to help with “whatever they need.”
