A man and a boy are dead after a rollover crash in Russell County, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs say.

The KHP says the wreck happened at 8:29 p.m. on Friday.

George Gier, 40, and Cooper Gier, 10, both of Russell, were in a 2014 Toyota 4Runner traveling south on 179th Street just north of the Russell-Barton county line when the wreck happened, according to crash logs.

The report says George Gier was driving when the 4Runner “entered the west ditch, ramped a field entrance” and became airborne. The report doesn’t say what caused the vehicle to leave the road.

The 4Runner “rolled several times” before landing on its roof, the crash log says.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, the report indicates.
