Kansas man dies trying to run across highway ahead of car, trooper says

A 65-year-old Wellington man died after being hit by a car on Highway 160 in Sumner County early Friday morning, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Chuck E. Flynn died in the collision with a 2015 Dodge Challenger, driven by a 23-year-old Wellington man. A 25-year-old Belle Plaine woman and an 18-year-old Wellington woman were also in the car. Trooper Wesley Gilmore said the victim was headed to the gas station and tried to run across the highway to beat the car.

No one in the car appeared to be injured, according to the KHP crash report.
