23-year-old Kansan killed in crash when pickup truck goes airborne and rolls, KHP says
A Kansas man was killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Phillips County, state troopers said.
Emergency crews were called at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a one-vehicle injury accident on U.S. 36 about four miles west of K-248, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report. One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.
Investigators determined a 2012 Dodge Ram was eastbound on the highway when it veered right and entered the south ditch for an unknown reason. The pickup truck “ramped a field entrance” then “went airborne and landed” on the shoulder before it “turned sideways and began to roll,” the crash report states.
The deceased driver was identified by the KHP as 23-year-old Nicholas Barton Shaffer, of Kensington.
