Bicyclist killed in Barton County wreck with SUV, officials say
A 78-year-old Ellinwood man on a bicycle died after being hit by an SUV Saturday morning in Barton County, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.
Harold D. Carson was riding a bicycle westbound on U-56 when he tried “possibly making a U-turn” and was hit by the driver of a 2013 Dodge Journey, also headed west, in the westbound lane, the KHP crash log says.
“Bicyclist was ejected off the bicycle,” the report says.
The driver, a 29-year-old Ellinwood woman, complained of a possible injury, the report says. The KHP responded to the wreck at 10:05 a.m. The wreck happened roughly 4 miles east of Great Bend.
