Semis and thousands of baby chickens involved in McPherson County crash, trooper says

Two semis, one carrying thousands of baby chickens, crashed Wednesday morning on Highway 56 in McPherson County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Trooper Ben Gardner tweeted at 8:47 a.m. that the injury crash occurred near Conway. He later tweeted out a couple photos: one with a semi on its side and another with someone holding a yellow baby chicken in their hands. The chicken looked alive and well. About the status of the other chickens, Gardner replied to a tweet that it’s “yet to be determined” if the others are OK.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, one of the semis hit the back of the other when the first one slowed down to turn. The second semi then entered the ditch, overturned and caught fire, the report says.

A 58-year-old Mississippi man who was a passenger in the semi that caught fire was taken to Wesley Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
