Kansas man killed after cars burst into flames during highway crash, troopers say

One Kansas man was killed and another was seriously hurt after an early-morning crash caused two cars to burst into flames.

Emergency crews were called at around 5:56 a.m. Thursday to an injury accident on U.S. 183 about 2 miles north of Lacrosse, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report. Investigators determined a 2001 Ford Taurus had become disabled in the roadway when it was struck broadside by a 2013 Toyota Camry. Both vehicles caught on fire.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified in the KHP report as 40-year-old Abubakar Kaba, of Great Bend. The 59-year-old Lacrosse man driving the Toyota was taken to Hays Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
