Woman struck, killed by train in Newton
A woman was hit and killed by a train early Thursday morning, according to a Newton spokeswoman.
Police were called shortly after midnight about a woman “nearly hit by a train” in downtown, said Erin McDaniel, director of communications for the city of Newton, in a news release. Officers were not able to find the woman. At about 2 a.m., officers were called back to the same area and found a woman “partially under a train car.”
“Police are still working to identify the woman, who had no identification or other personal items on her,” McDaniel said in the release.
The woman is white, estimated to be in her 50s, with brown hair, brown eyes, and weighs about 170 pounds. She was wearing blue jeans, a maroon shirt and a black or dark blue hooded sweatshirt, according to the release.
Anyone with information about the woman, should contact Newton police 316-284-6030 or 911.
