Kansas man dies after his SUV runs into back of tractor

A 36-year-old Great Bend man died Friday after crashing into the back of a tractor, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office said.

In a news release, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said the accident happened at about 6:45 a.m., south of Ellinwood. Jason Seth Winget, 18, of Ellinwood was driving north on a 1967 Minneapolis Moline tractor, taking it to school for Ag Day. Roch A. Miller II crashed into the back of the tractor while driving an SUV, the release said. Miller was taken to the Ellinwood District Hospital with serious injuries and later died.

“Investigation at the scene indicates Miller may have been distracted in the vehicle just prior to the collision,” Bellendir said in the news release.

Winget, who was headed to Ellinwood High School, had minor injuries.
