Man dies after being shot by trooper in downtown Topeka during traffic stop
A 33-year-old man shot by a Kansas trooper in Topeka has died from his injuries, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.
Late Wednesday morning, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped Gaston A. Nava-Saucedo for a traffic violation in downtown Topeka. When the trooper tried to arrest Nava-Saucedo, he got out of the Pontiac G6 “before resisting arrest and getting back in his car to flee,” according to the KBI.
“In an effort to prevent the driver from leaving, the Trooper ended up partially inside the Pontiac, and was dragged by the fleeing car,” the KBI said in a news release. “During the struggle, the trooper fired multiple shots at the subject, who was struck.”
Nava-Saucedo and the trooper were taken to Stormont Vail Hospital, where the trooper was treated and released.
