Man succumbs to injuries from wreck with semi, Liberal police say

A 76-year-old passenger in a car that collided with a semi on Friday morning has died, the Liberal Police Department said.

Police said they were called at 8:24 a.m. to the intersection of Tucker Road and U.S. 83 in Liberal. A 67-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Malibu and her passenger were westbound on Tucker Road and stopped at the intersection of U.S. 83. She then drove into the intersection and was hit in the passenger side by a semi headed southbound on U.S. 83, Liberal police said in a news release. The driver of the semi had the right-of-way, police said.

The Malibu driver and passenger were taken to the Southwest Medical Center, where the driver was treated for minor injuries. The passenger was later airlifted to Wesley Medical Center where he died.
