Dodge City woman killed in wreck with police SUV that was responding to call

A Dodge City woman was killed Saturday morning after her vehicle was struck by a police SUV responding to a break-in in progress, the Dodge City Police Department said.

Vanessa Guzman was killed after being ejected from her vehicle. She was the only occupant. Officers tried lifesaving efforts until EMS arrived, but Guzman died at the scene, police said.

Guzman was traveling north on Matt Down Lane when she was hit in the passenger side by the police SUV being driven west on Wyatt Earp Boulevard, police said in a news release. The wreck happened at 4:56 a.m. as police were headed to the call on 28th Avenue, which was about a half-mile away from the wreck.

The officer involved in the wreck was taken to Western Plains Regional Medical Center. His condition was listed as stable.
