Four children killed in Thanksgiving Day wreck, Kansas trooper says

Four children under the age of 8 were killed in a wreck on Thanksgiving Day in Republic County after the vehicle they were in left the road and went into a pond, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol reported the wreck happened at around 11:30 a.m. near U.S. Highway 36. Republic County borders Nebraska in north-central Kansas. The mother of the children was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, and a man was being interviewed, the Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Ben Gardner said in a tweet that troopers didn’t think the occupants were Kansas residents.

According to a Facebook fundraiser, the mother, her four sons and boyfriend were traveling for the holiday when the wreck occurred. The fundraiser lists the ages of the boys from 8 months old to 12 years old. As of 11:10 a.m. Friday, the fundraiser has more than $16,000, well over the listed $10,000 goal.
