Two die, two hurt in three-vehicle collision in Pratt County

A Haysville couple was killed and two other people injured Saturday morning in a chain-reaction collision involving three vehicles on U.S. 54 near Pratt, authorities said.

The collisions occurred 12 miles west of Pratt just after 11 a.m., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. A semitrailer truck pulling two trailers was heading east on U.S. 54 when it crossed the center line for unknown reasons, according to a highway patrol report.

The semi struck a 2003 Dodge Dakota traveling west on U.S. 54, and both vehicles went into the ditch on the north side of the highway. The third vehicle, a 2000 GMC Yukon, struck the Dakota in the ditch, according to the report.

The occupants of the Dakota – Nasario Trujillo, 60, and Mary Lou Trujillo, 58 – were both killed in the crash. The two people in the Yukon have both been hospitalized, according to the highway patrol.

Kim Boone, 52, was taken to Pratt Regional Medical Center for treatment. Pratt hospital officials have not released information about his condition.

Karla Boone, 48, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she was in critical condition Saturday evening. The Boones live in Toronto, Kan.

The driver of the semi, Roger Calvin, 65, of Winfield, was not injured in the collision, according to the highway patrol.
