He walked into the police station with a machete — then it got strange

File photo

He strolled into the police station in Topeka with a machete early Saturday morning, then announced a short time later that he had a bomb.

Authorities were able to talk him into leaving the Law Enforcement Center’s lobby, a statement issued by the Topeka Police Department said, and officers were able to isolate him from others.

The incident began at about 2 a.m., police said, and officers talked to him for about an hour outside the building. When he became aggressive with his machete, he was subdued with a stun gun and taken into custody.

No officers were hurt and the man who was subdued and arrested sustained “only superficial injuries,” police said. He was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, criminal threat and other alleged offenses.
