Fall River man dies in Greenwood County crash

A Fall River man died after the van he was driving in Greenwood County on Sunday collided with a semi, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

Vernon Kirkpatrick, 59, was pronounced dead shortly after the 1998 Pontiac van he was driving crashed head-on into a semi being driven by a Lawrence man. The crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning about 2 miles west of Fall River on U.S. Highway 400, the report said.

The van had been traveling eastbound on the highway when it veered left of the center line and struck the semi, the report said. The driver of the semi and a Missouri woman who was a passenger in the vehicle were not injured, the report said.
