Forklift accident kills man in Osage City
A Topeka man has been killed in a forklift accident in Osage City, authorities said Wednesday.
Ruben G. Chavira, 53, was operating a forklift early Wednesday when the vehicle pinned him against other equipment at the Orbis Plastic plant at 515 S. Fifth St. in Osage City, according to a statement posted on the Osage City Police Department’s Facebook page.
Osage City police were sent to the plant at about 3:15 a.m., police Chief Fred Nech said in the statement. Chavira was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was found by another employee, Nech said. Chavira was a press operator and backup grinder and had worked at Orbis since 2014.
The incident is being investigated by Orbis, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the coroner’s office, Nech said.
