Person in Barton County dies after officer-involved shooting
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Barton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday in Barton County.
According to a Highway Patrol news release issued Saturday night, an armed suspect had injured a family member and was threatening to harm others. At 7:19 p.m., a Highway Patrol trooper reported shots had been fired and the suspect had been shot.
The person was transported to a local hospital and died shortly after, according to the release.
The KBI, Highway Patrol and the Barton County Sheriff’s Office would not release any more details, including gender or age of the suspect. More information is expected Tuesday.
The Highway Patrol trooper has been placed on administrative leave while the case is investigated, the news release said.
