Kingman County inmate damages courthouse en route to jail
While being escorted back to his jail cell after a court appearance Thursday morning, a Kingman County inmate caused damage to the courthouse, according to a news release from the county.
The inmate, James Clark, appeared before District Magistrate Judge Roseanna Mathis on a motion to revoke his probation from a conviction on two counts of battery in 2012, the release said. The judge sentenced him to a year in jail, with credit for time already served.
Clark then “became disruptive,” according to the release, causing damage to the courthouse’s elevator controls and breaking a pane of glass in the door of the Register of Deeds’ office.
Kingman County Sheriff’s deputies Amber Barratti and Pat Taylor brought Clark under control and escorted him to the Kingman County Jail, the release said.
Kingman County Sheriff Randy Hill said his office was conducting an investigation into the incident to determine whether additional charges will be pressed.
No one was injured.
