Continuance granted in case of mother accused of causing 5-month-old’s brain bleed

The lawyer for a mother accused of causing her 5-month-old son to suffer a brain bleed asked for a continuance in her case Wednesday, which Sedgwick County District Court Judge Joe Kisner granted.

The preliminary hearing for the woman will be Feb. 18. This is the third time the hearing has been continued.

The woman faces a child abuse charge that she bounced her baby boy on her knee “at a force level of eight out of 10” to try to quiet him.

The baby suffered a brain bleed, a condition doctors had previously treated him for, a child-in-need-of-care petition prosecutors filed Nov. 24 on behalf of him and an older child alleges.
