Bob Knight endorses Sam Williams in Wichita mayoral race
Former Wichita mayor Bob Knight has endorsed Sam Williams in the city’s 2015 mayoral race.
“Those who know me know that I care deeply about this city and its future,” Knight said Thursday in a news release. “It’s been apparent for a long while that our community has vast talent capable of achieving great things. I believe Sam is the person to lead the public sector’s role in that important process.”
Knight made his announcement during a news conference at the Wichita Area Builders Association in downtown Wichita.
Williams, 63, a retired business executive, is among 10 candidates running for mayor. The primary election to narrow the field to two candidates is March 3. The general election is April 7.
“As a business leader I watched how Bob Knight as mayor crafted a vision for our city and skillfully worked with the council and community leaders to achieve success,” Williams said in a statement. “If elected, that will be my model, and I’m gratified that Bob has agreed to be available to me for counsel and institutional knowledge of Wichita government.”
