Senate President Wagle’s e-mail hacked

Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle is not in Turkey, and she does not need you to send her money.

Wagle, R-Wichita, had her e-mail account hacked Thursday afternoon. An e-mail from Wagle’s AOL account went out to her contact list, including other Kansas politicos and several members of the Statehouse press corps, saying that she was in Turkey and needed money because of an emergency:

“I am Sorry to bother you with this mail, I just arrived in turkey and I am in a fix. Would have called but i lost my mobile phone to the incident, am in need of about 1120usd and would like to get a loan from you or whatever amount you can come up with You’ll have it as soon as I get back. It’s really urgent, please get back to me with asap if you can I will advice you on how you can get it to me. Please keep this between us.and you can also contact the hotel manager.”

The e-mail provided an e-mail contact for Frank Stewards, the hotel manager who is supposedly helping Wagle resolve her “fix” in Turkey.

Wagle is currently attending the annual American Legislative Exchange Council in San Diego and is not in Turkey.

E-mail hacks like this are a common scam and can be reported to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, which has a special unit dedicated to investigating cyber crime.
