Bill Warren challenges Sam Williams to sign affidavit on sales tax vote

Movie theater owner Bill Warren said he has signed an affidavit swearing that mayoral candidate Sam Williams told a handful of developers he voted for the sale tax that voters rejected in November.

Williams has said he voted against it.

Warren challenged Williams on Friday to sign a legal affidavit saying how he voted. He had previously challenged Williams to take a polygraph test, which Williams said he would not do.

Warren on Friday also announced samgate.com, a website where he put documents, e-mail copies and media links that he said call Williams’ truthfulness into question.

Williams, a retired ad executive, is running for mayor against City Council member Jeff Longwell.

“This attack is nonsense,” Williams said in a prepared response. “I hesitate to even respond to it. I will say, instead of the ‘he said, she said’ back and forth, voters deserve a real plan that addresses our streets, our water infrastructure and how we grow jobs.”

The sales tax was rejected by 62 percent of voters last fall.
