J. Michelle Vann, candidate for Valley Center school board
Name: J. Michelle Vann
Age: 50
Occupation: Educator/Coach
Previous government service: I was appointed to the Sedgwick County Mental Health Advisory Board
Have you run for office before? (Please list any previous offices sought)
Yes. I ran for State Senate, but I did not win the seat.
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
I believe the top issue right now is COVID and how do we resume a sense of normality. Most parents would agree that they would like to leave the teaching up to the teachers and students would rather be with their friends. With that being said we We need to take every precaution we can to create a safe environment that is not spreading the virus. Following the masking and sanitizing suggestions from the CDC are the bare minimum we should do to ensure the safety of all.
What would your top 3 policy priorities be?
Building and fortifying mental health services for students and teachers. Expansion of college and career services. Building and creating a conducive work environment for teachers and a learning environment for students.
