Have you run for office before? (Please list any previous offices sought)
No, I have not
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
I am running for school board to address the lack of communication and transparency with parents from the current board. Parents should not only be able to share their thoughts, concerns, and hopes, but also expect that they will be heard as we work together to see our district grow and improve.
What would your top 3 policy priorities be?
1. My top priority is parental involvement. For example, it is my strong conviction that parents, not the school board, are best equipped to make healthcare decisions for students. It is imperative that the members of the board maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding school policies.
2. My next priority is to improve college and career readiness. According to the Kansas Policy Institute’s 2019 numbers, only 27.1% of USD 261 graduates are fully college or career ready in English Language Arts, and that number drops to 12.2% in Math.
3. The third priority for me is keeping an eye on curriculum. I will advocate for transparency so that parents who want to know what is being taught can easily see the curriculum and materials being used. Further, I will oppose curriculum that focuses on ideological indoctrination, such as CRT. It is important that we are using curriculum that teaches basic skills, and focuses on achieving academic excellence.
